Permitted Substance Search

Update

Please note this is a historical list and is no longer being used by the Ministry. For information on natural health products (NHPs), please see: https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/regulation-health-and-disability-system/therapeutic-products- regulatory-regime

Explanatory Notes

This updated draft list also includes substances that are not proposed to be included in a permitted substances list (marked with a 'No'), and those substances to be referred to an Expert Advisory Committee (marked as 'Pending').

In the proposed restrictions below, where a field is empty, this means that a specific restriction is not currently proposed for the substance.

In the restrictions columns, MDD refers to 'Maximum daily dose', NMT refers to 'Not more than', mg refers to 'milligrams', kg refers to 'kilograms', mL refers to 'millilitres', BP refers to the 'British Pharmacopoeia', and USP refers to the 'United States Pharmacopoeia'.

Label advisory statements (where proposed) for products containing these substances have not been finalised but are expected to be similar to those listed below. It is intended that words of a similar meaning to the advisory statement may be used.

Products that only contain substances that are present at less than 20 parts per million (ppm) do not need to be notified. Therefore, if your product contains any substance present at less than 20 ppm and it is not on this list, you do not need to ask for the substance to be included.

What to do if your substance does not appear on this list - the period for free submission of requests closed on 31 March 2017. We are no longer receiving requests until the NHP Bill is passed into law. A process for requesting additions, removals or changes to the draft list will be put in place then.
