Classification of Medicines
Current Amendment to the Classification Schedule
Updated: 6 August 2009
An update to The First Schedule to the Medicines Regulations 1984 came into effect on 7 August 2009. This amendment, Medicines Amendment Regulations 2009, will replace Medicines Amendment Regulations 2006.
Medicines Amendment Regulations 2009 is a consolidation of new classifications and classification changes which have already come into effect by means of Gazette notices. It contains changes recommended by the Medicines Classification Committee at its 41st meeting on 14 May 2009.
The current classification of a medicine may also be found in the ‘Schedule of Classifications’ on this website.
Note that Gazette notices published after 7 August 2009 will override classifications in Medicines Amendment Regulations 2009. Changes notified in the Gazette will be reflected in the ‘Schedule of Classifications’.
