Tinidazole belongs to a group of medicines called nitroimidazoles that can act against certain types of bacteria and protozoa by killing or stopping their growth. Some types of bacteria do not need oxygen to grow and they are called anaerobic bacteria.
DYZOLE tablets will not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.
DYZOLE tablets are used to prevent certain anaerobic bacterial infections that may occur after surgery.

Do not take DYZOLE tablets if you have/have had blood dyscrasias.
This is an abnormal condition of the blood.
Do not take DYZOLE tablets if you suffer from a neurological disorder (disease of the brain, spinal cord or nerves).
Do not take DYZOLE tablets in order to prevent disease after surgery if
you are under the age of 12 years.

DYZOLE tablets may be used for other conditions in children but only on a
doctor's prescription.
Do not take DYZOLE tablets if you are pregnant or intend to become
pregnant
The effects on foetal development and in the newborn baby are not known.
Do not breast feed your baby as tinidazole is present in breast milk when
taken by breast-feeding mothers. An alternative to breast feeding is advised.
Ask your doctor when breast-feeding can resume after a course of DYZOLE tablets.
Your doctor will discuss the risks and benefits of taking this medicine during pregnancy.
Do not take DYZOLE tablets if the expiry date printed on the pack has
passed
If you take this medicine after the expiry date has passed, it may not work as
well.
If you are not sure if you should be taking DYZOLE tablets, talk to your doctor.
Tell your doctor of any medical conditions you may have.
Tell your doctor if you have a partner who may be infected with urogenital trichomoniasis. They may require treatment as well.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant.
Your doctor will discuss the risks and benefits of taking this medicine during
pregnancy.
Do not take DYZOLE tablets if you are breast-feeding.
Stop taking DYZOLE tablets and see your doctor immediately if you
experience dizziness, vertigo, un-coordination and unsteady walking.
This is an indication that DYZOLE tablets may be affecting your nervous system.
Do not carry out activities that require alertness such as operating machinery or driving a vehicle until you know how DYZOLE tablets affect you.
Tell your doctor if you plan to have surgery.
DYZOLE tablets may prolong bleeding.
If you have not told your doctor about any of the above, tell them before you are given DYZOLE tablets.
Tell your doctor if you are taking any other medicines including any that you have bought from a pharmacy, supermarket or healthfood shop.
Some medicines may interfere with DYZOLE tablets.
Do not take warfarin and other blood clotting medicines.
Do not drink alcohol - this also includes medicines that contain alcohol
such as some cough syrups.
You may experience stomach cramps, flushed skin and vomiting.
Medicines and alcohol may be affected by DYZOLE tablets, or may affect how well it works. You may need to use different amounts of your medicine, or you may need to take different medicines. Your doctor will advise you.

Follow all directions given to you by your doctor or pharmacist carefully.

Take DYZOLE tablets exactly as your doctor has prescribed.
Your doctor will tell you how many DYZOLE tablets you or your child should take each day. This depends on your condition, age, weight, and whether or not you are taking any other medicines.
Swallow the tablets with water.
Take DYZOLE tablets during or immediately after a meal.
If taken on an empty stomach, it may cause stomach upset.
If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you missed and take your next dose when you are meant to. Otherwise, take it as soon as you remember and then continue taking it as you would normally.
Do not double a dose to make up for the one you missed.
If you are not sure what to do, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
If you have trouble remembering your dose, ask your pharmacist for some hints.
Tell all doctors, dentists and pharmacists who are treating you that you are taking DYZOLE tablets.
Tell your doctor if you become pregnant while taking DYZOLE tablets.
If you are going to have surgery, tell your doctor you are taking DYZOLE tablets.
Tell your doctor if you feel the tablets are not helping your condition.
Be sure to keep all your appointments with your doctor so that your progress can be checked.
Do not stop taking DYZOLE tablets or change the dose without first checking with your doctor. You should take the full course of DYZOLE tablets even if you feel well or the infection may reappear.
Do not let yourself run out of medicine over the weekend or on holidays.
Do not give DYZOLE tablets to anyone else even if they have the same condition as you.
Do not use DYZOLE tablets to treat other complaints unless your doctor says to.
Do not take any other medicines whether they require a prescription or not without first telling your doctor or consulting a pharmacist.
Do not carry out activities that require alertness such as operating machinery or driving a vehicle until you know how DYZOLE tablets affect you.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible if you do not feel well while you are taking DYZOLE tablets.
DYZOLE helps most people but it may have unwanted side effects.
All medicines can have side effects. Sometimes they are serious. You may need medical treatment if you get some of the side effects.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist to answer any questions you may have.

These are serious side effects. You may need urgent medical attention.

Do not be alarmed by this list of possible side effects. You may not experience any of them.
Immediately telephone your doctor or National Poisons Information Centre (telephone 0800 POISON or 0800 764 766) for advice, or go to your nearest Accident and Emergency Centre if you think that you or anyone else may have taken too many DYZOLE tablets. Do this even if there are no signs of discomfort or poisoning.
Keep your tablets in the original container and protect from light until
it is time to take them.
If you take the medicine out of its container it may not keep well.
Keep DYZOLE tablets in a cool dry place where the temperature stays below 30°C.
Do not store it, or any other medicine, in a bathroom or near a sink.
Do not leave it in the car or on window sills.
Heat and dampness can destroy some medicines.
Keep DYZOLE tablets where children cannot reach them.
A locked cupboard at least one-and-a-half metres above the ground is a good
place to store medicines.
If your doctor tells you to stop taking DYZOLE tablets, or the medicine has passed its expiry date, ask your pharmacist what to do with any tablets.
DYZOLE is available as white round biconvex film-coated tablets coded with dp one side & 500 on the other. The tablets are approximately 12mm in diameter.
The tablets come in a carton each containing 10 blisters of 4 individual tablets.
Maize cornflour, Alginic acid, Microcrystalline cellulose, Magnesium stearate, Sodium lauryl sulphate, Opadry white Y-1-7000B and Hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose.
